Filet o' Finishes

I have a couple of finishes and some progress to report. Firstly, there is the matter of Filet. It's a form of crochet used mostly for doilies. It seemed foreign to me at first. I had done something that was filet but had no clue because the pattern was written out. Filet is mostly done with charts or diagrams.

I was on Ravelry one day and saw a pattern that I wanted to do. The only problem is is that it was done in Filet and had only a chart to go by. So I had to teach myself how to do it. So I went online and found a tutorial type site and did my practice piece. Kind of like a swatch.

And then I sat down and went to it. Now this pattern is intended for a rounded doily, but being new to the whole process, I just did it in a square. I also used finger weight yarn instead of the crochet cotton doilies call for. I think it turned out good.

Excuse the angle, this was the only way I could get the detail to show. This is called the Doily of Rassilon. It is a symbol from the original Doctor Who series. Which of course is what made me want to make it. I have other things I want to make with this technique already. As if I don't have enough of a to-do list.

I found another pattern on Ravelry earlier and made it too. It's a hyperbolic dishcloth. Round but not flat. Very interesting.

And then there is some progress on my Washburne. I've done 2 pattern repeats and am on my 3rd.

I also have started another afghan. It's the Chromium Star Blanket. I just like the shape.

Washburne KAL

I know what you are thinking. How could she join another KAL?

Well hold onto your socks. I am not only a member, I am the KAL president. LOL!
Ok not really. I just started it, with permission from La of course.

It is the Washburne KAL. That lovely cabled scarf pattern I've been talking about. It's beautiful and fun to knit.

Here is La's finished pic.

You can hear more about it here on her blog.

Come join us won't you? Just click the button to join the fun.

For Lord of the Ring fans and a groovy button

This video was just too funny not to share. You may have already seen it, but it's just funny.

And La made a groovy button for her Washburne pattern. So I'm adding it to my KAL list, even though there isn't an official KAL. Cause she said I could, ok?

KIP

There was some actual knitting in public yesterday.

And then a little more progress last night. Even though it was a little dark for a picture, it still is more true to the real color.

It's La's Washburne I told you about in the previous post. It's a fun knit. If you're on Ravlery check it out.

It's a good cause...really

You should really go buy this pattern*.

It's beautiful and full of cabley goodness.

La is using the sales to buy herself prezzies. And really, doesn't she deserve some?

How much YouTube is too much?

Last night I almost found out. You know how it is. You see one video you like, and there are dozens of links to other similar ones. And before you know it, you have clicked your way into a marathon.

Did you know that Laurie has some videos? So cute.

And did you also know that Wendy does? Mad knitting skills.

And, hold on to your hats, did you know Cat Bordhi does? Yes she does!

And here I leave you with my newest favorite video. It's called Harry Potter Scarf.
