We were scalped

Well it's that time of year when you just can't stand to have hair anymore. The boys decided to get a flat-top like daddy, and one of my girls wanted bangs again and shorter hair. Me myself, I didn't want any hair, but I don't think I would look good bald. So I took the boys to the barber who does hubby's cuts.

Then I took my oldest daughter to a salon. She got hers cut and then I sat down. I told the hair dresser what I wanted and she said: "Are you sure?" I said yes I have done it before. Then she got to looking at my hair and said: "I can save you some money if you would like to donate to the Locks of Love ." I said sure. When I came into the salon, my bangs hung 3 inches lower than my chin, and she took 10 inches of the back to donate. Let's just say, my hair is way shorter now. Since I donated, I got my cut for free. So if you feel charitable, and hot, go donate. Their site tells you where you can go donate. It's worth looking into.

I don't know if you can really see it, but it's hard taking a picture of your own head. But from the middle of the back of my head down is shaved short. And the little one was a little upset she didn't get to get hers cut. But I had to take her picture with the others anyway.

But with that face, how could I say no?

Another Mystery

We got a swatch pattern at the Mystery Shawl ALong. So I knitted it up. This time I used very fine yarn(?). Don't know what this is I am using either. It is a light silvery gray color. It is really thin and on a cone shaped spool. I did look inside and it says:
I. B. Silk Corp, New York, Rayon & Cotton Threads. But that is all it says, so I dont' know exactly what it is. But it does make some lacey fabric. Another mystery fiber, fitting for the project huh?

I hope this will make for a good shawl. I have never made one, so we shall see. Here's the little swatch. I couldn't get it to come in any clearer. Oh to have a scanner, or a camera that isn't crappy.

Hobby Lobby

Oh.my.goodness.gracious.alive! I finally got to go to the Hobby Lobby. I will be drooling for a week. Well possibly longer. We were out and about and happened to be in the same parking lot as the store, so I thought we could go in for a minute. You know, while we were near and all. It's a good thing I had no money to spend. I saw tons of stuff I wanted to get. It was really a quick walk-through cause the kids were with me, so not a lot of time to really stare at everything. There were so many knitting books, so much yarn. So many needles and such. All the colors of the rainbow and more in the cross-stitch floss. Rows of cross-stitch kits and patterns. Rows of beads. I could go on and on, but I would just be torturing myself. The good news is I probably will score a gift card for my birthday. Oh boy, my mind is racing already at how much stuff I can actually have in my paws. There is no end to the possibilities. And when I go, I will go by myself. So I can get lost in all of it. Sigh. Thank you Melissa for telling me about such a place as this. And thanks for giving me another addicition.

Good deal

I had to go out today so I thought I'd stop in at the goodwill store. You know, just to see what they had. Well I found a bag with some circular needles in it. It didn't have a price on it though, and I thought that meant it would be a fairly high amount. As thrift store prices go. I got to the check-out and the woman said it was 48 cents. Of course that was 52 cents with tax. I get it home and open it and have 5 sets of circulars. Sure all but one are plastic, but hey, it gives me more circulars.

All different sizes and lengths. So now I have some to use for some other things I am going to be knitting. Cause the other two good pair are in the middle of things. Those being the Ribbed Corset and the Mystery Stole. I have done a little more on the corset. I had to figure out some stitches first. But I asked the group how to do it and got my answers. From the lady herself.

Not only do I feel good after getting all those needles for practically nothing, I also got something else the other day, just for me. I don't usually (except for yarn), but it just said "Buy me".

Isn't it cute? A little bracelet just for me. I don't usually act all girly and go for stuff like this, but I thought I would for once.

Sadness and Harry Potter

You know it is really sad that the only time we get to see a lot of the people we really care about is at a funeral. We had that going on last week and this weekend. It's never an easy time for anyone. But I did get to see my favorite Aunt. I haven't seen her in such a long time. She is really my hubby's aunt, but I took her as my own. It just goes to show you how life gets so involved that you don't even have time with the special people.

The new Harry Potter book is out. Everyone in the world seems to have gotten it and read it. Even people in the comics are reading it. I, however, won't read it until it comes out in paperback. My whole collection is in paperback, and I don't want to have an odd ball mixed in. And of course, I don't wanna pay that much for the hard back either. If I don't have that much to spend on yarn, I don't have that much to spend on a book. My priorities are straight, aren't they?

I did manage to get a little more done on the corset. I did a little of the bust decrease. But now I am stuck again on something in the pattern. Well if I can get through all this new stuff, I will feel I have really accomplished something.

See all the pretty shaping I did? I feel so proud.

More on the corset

I hadn't realized just how many days I hadn't posted until I came to post today. I guess a lot had to do with all that happened in London. I wouldn't have even known about it if I hadn't read it in the blogs I frequent. And I didn't feel I had anything useful to contribute, so I just didn't post. I also didn't want to post again until I had enough of the corset done to take another picture. And since life gets in the way of knitting sometimes, it took me longer to get to a good picture point. I am now to the point where I will start the bust. I just hope it looks as good as others I have seen once I am through with it. But I am just glad I am actually doing it, even though I wasn't too sure I could. Thanks for all the encouraging comments.

Here I go again

Well I finally got a print out of my Corset pattern. I had to wait all weekend and the holiday for it. I am out of ink and had to let someone print it for me. So I got it in my hands yesterday. I thought I would try a swatch with my blob of yarn and see if it came out right. It did, so I decided to start it. I never thought I would make anything wearable but this pattern just said do it, so I did. The cast on was even a new one for me. I have never before heard of the I-cord cast on but I actually did it. But it takes forever, especially if you have lots of stitches to cast on. And I did 5 rows. So far so good. I hope it will turn out right, and I hope I can do it. The pic of the start and the blob of yarn is below.

So I guess I am now officially in that knit along too. Will I never learn?

Fireworks and Hot Heads

We did the usual thing yesterday. Ate hamburgers, watched fireworks, but I needed something to do. Well I don't know how I did it, but I did. I decided to go ahead and make my hubby a hat. And I wanted a break from the stole, but still wanted to knit. So I got out my SnB Handbook, and went looking. I decided on the Hot Head pattern. He likes the whole flame look thing, so I thought it would be perfect. This is my first hat ever.

It looks small, but it stretches great.

When I can get it modeled, I will post a pic. I really wanted to knit him a sweater. This coming from a person who never thought she would make anything wearable other than a scarf. Will wonders never cease. But unfortunately that will have to wait until there is fundage for such a project. Cause even though I have a lot of yarn just laying around, it is mostly different colors. And there isn't enough of any color to use for a sweater. Even a striped one.

I didn't really like the way this pattern was though. It was easy and quick to knit up, but didn't like the whole seeming part and the way one side looked. So next time I will find a pattern that is circular. I am sure I will have more fun doing it that way. I need to get the SnB Nation book, that way I will have more patterns to choose from when I wanna do something new.

People will sometimes amaze you

Well I get up today, and am now shocked to say the least. I see a new e-mail alert. I figure it is just some junk mail, but it's not. To my great surprise it is a gift. I have been RAOK'd. I had read numerous posts talking about getting these little gifts, but never knew what it felt like myself. I was speechless. It made me so happy. This is what I found when I looked in my inbox.

I have been wanting this, and someone was kind enough to give it to me. It's amazing how one little act of kindness can make you feel so good. I have already thanked the person who did this for me. But thank you again, you know who you are.

Another month come and gone

Well, it's July already. Who would a thunk it? We got our 4th clue today in the Mystery Stole Along. I haven't even finished one full repeat on Clue 3 yet. I am half way there, but each full repeat is 84 rows. So I have done a good amount. Once I do get a full repeat done, I will post a pic. One of the people in the group already had all 5 repeats done. Wow. I feel like I am not doing anything. But then again, some people have been knitting a really long time. So I guess I just should be glad that I can do the pattern.

It has also just been way hot, and yarn tends to stick to ya when you sweat. But I did manage to do two more squares of my 63 squares afghan. So I don't feel totally useless. LOL.

If I don't post until after, Happy 4th everyone.
